Explore the history of Juneteenth with storyteller Mama Jatu, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History
Virtual event presented by Macomb Community College, Henry Ford College and Oakland Community College
Storyteller and educator Mama Jatu of the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History will bring the history, meaning and purpose of Juneteenth to life during a free online event Monday, June 17, 12 – 1 p.m.
Juneteenth commemorates the day in 1865 when the news of emancipation reached enslaved African Americans in Texas, marking the effective end of enslavement in the United States. It is a day of celebration, remembrance and reflection on the struggles and achievements of Black Americans throughout history.
