Here’s what you need to know:
The FAFSA is a form you submit online at studentaid.gov to apply for financial aid. It is the required first step in the financial aid process. You must fill it out to receive aid at a community college, four-year university or trade school.
You can get ready by collecting important documents such as social security numbers, tax returns, bank statements and more. If this is your first time filling out the FAFSA, and you’re under the age of 24, you and your parent/ guardian will need to create an ID to sign the form electronically.
This tool transfers tax information to FAFSA directly from the IRS, saving time and eliminating mistakes. You’ll find the tool on studentaid.gov.
Think your family’s income is too high for aid? Think again. Almost everyone qualifies for some form of federal financial aid, including federal loans at lower interest rates than those offered by private lenders. Make sure you’re one of them by filling out the FAFSA.
If you received aid last year, you probably filled out the FAFSA. However, a new FAFSA form is required each year. Submit it right away, as some programs have limited funds that can run out.
Macomb's school code is 008906. Be sure to list Macomb first on your FAFSA to ensure the State of Michigan receives your application. This will help determine your eligibility for any state scholarships.
