Applied Technology and Apprenticeship
A skilled trade wants you. Literally. And what could beat a hands-on, high-paying career that you can retire from?
The skilled trades are the backbone of the construction and manufacturing industries.
And right now there’s a tremendous shortage of those who can skillfully fill the following positions that we offer apprenticeship or other work-based training programs in:
For a closer look at the programs available, refer to the College Catalog.
Show them you’re ready!
If your foundational skills need a little finishing work before you apply for an apprenticeship or other work-based training program, we offer four pre-apprenticeship classes that can be completed in just one semester.
If you qualify, these classes are free through Michigan Apprenticeship Program Plus (MAP+). You’ll learn about:
- Shop math
- Industrial safety
- Drafting and blueprint reading
- Industrial processes
And you’ll receive an Industrial Readiness Certificate to show prospective employers you’ve got what it takes to be an apprentice!
If you’re a high school student with limited work experience, this is definitely the way to go. And the nine credits earned in these classes can be applied to an Associate of Applied Science degree.
Learn by doing
There’s a reason that all of our applied tech and apprenticeship programs include on-the-job training.
You learn best by doing and few training programs equal apprenticeships when it comes to teaching you how something is done.
If selected for an apprenticeship by an employer (required), you will work under the supervision of a licensed skilled trade professional. You will be paid for your hours on the job and stand a good chance of being hired for a full-time position after you complete your apprenticeship.
And you’ll receive not one but two certificates of completion – from us and the U.S. Department of Labor.
How’s that for a reference on your resume?
