Accessibility at Macomb

Adhering to Established Standards

Macomb Community College is committed to maintaining an environment that is inclusive and accessible for all students, employees and on-campus and online visitors. Any form of discrimination based upon a physical or mental disability (real or perceived) or an individual’s genetic information (family medical history) will not be tolerated.

Toward that end, we adhere to the standards established by the federal Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Section 504), providing the services and reasonable accommodations necessary for those with disabilities to fully participate in our educational community.

What follows is a breakdown of how we maintain accessibility both on campus and online.

Accessible Parking and Entrances

Elimination of any barriers that could interfere with an individual’s ability to physically navigate our campuses is a top priority at Macomb.

Accessible parking spaces and barrier-free entrances are indicated on the maps of each of our four campuses, printable versions of which can be found on the college’s website under Maps and Directions.

Accessibility at Meetings and Events

Thoughtful planning prior to a meeting or event fosters a caring community where every individual feels welcomed and valued.

For that reason, Macomb expects college meeting planners to consider the needs of attendees who require reasonable accommodations so that they can attend and fully contribute to an on-site or online meeting.

Likewise, reasonable accommodations should be made available to attendees at all on-campus events. Details on how individuals can request these accommodations are provided by the college via invitations, announcements and other college communications.

Web Content Accessibility

The website serves as the digital gateway to the college and access to it is crucial for current and prospective students, employees and the community at large.

That is why the college’s website is constantly evaluated to ensure that it meets the most current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium, an international web standards organization.

WCAG requires that websites are “operable, perceivable and understandable,” ensuring a positive user experience for all.

Accessible Library and Learning Center Resources

The college’s libraries located on both South and Center Campus maintain comprehensive digital and physical collections that provide intellectual resources to students, employees and the community.

To ensure an equitable experience for all, the libraries follow on-site and online accessibility standards, respond to user-feedback and provide on-site assistive technology support when needed.
